This dispatch is dedicated to talking about keyboards, custom shortcuts and how I use them in my workflow. On the 17 Dec 2025, I bought two VAYDEER Macro 4 key keyboards, one for £23.37 and one for a bargain price at £16.15 from eBay. I've always had the intent to improve my workflow on my workstation PC. To this end I'm using one to support my basic functions in Hexagon 2.5, but as they are generic keys, it's also useful when I need to do something elsewhere in another program.
I decided to set the four keys as 1. a Zoom a Hexagon 2.5 specific key and three generic key shortcuts. 2. Copy; 3. Paste. 4. Delete as having comfortable fast access to them, while 3D modelling allows me a more relaxed editing session.
Alongside that, as they can support custom keycaps, I decided to get cheesy and swap the Delete-mapped key to a block of cheese; the other three will be plain custom-colour keycaps, perhaps with the words printed on them for each key.
Moving on, my second keyboard acquisition is the Tipro 96 Key Programmable Matrix Mechanical Keyboard, as pictured below. I believe part of the listing mentioned I can swap to custom keycaps, so I'm likely to set this up sometime in the future and program it for all other Hexagon 2.5 shortcuts, as that is my primary 3D modelling program.
This only cost me £59.99, and I would like to buy a few more to put away in storage to replace my primary one if it breaks or requires spare parts.
I plan to collect many custom keyboards to support the programs I use daily. As seen below, I'm interested in acquiring a custom Blender keyboard; this would help greatly, as Blender can be a complex program, and learning shortcuts and macros are the way to go to enter a flow state while working on projects.
I'm also interested in acquiring a custom keyboard for video editing and many other programs, like Unreal Engine and Houdini, all likely to be stored on some shelving when not needed or in use.
Hopefully in the next dispatch about my keyboards I will be able to show more progress on acquiring new ones and custom keycaps and will have some more experience using them in day-to-day workflows.
